Working Life: 3 states
In our experience, people spend their working lives moving between one of these three “states”:
Willingness to experiment
In practice, the experience moves along a spectrum. We might say, we move from flunking to floundering to flourishing....and back again, as demands and context change.
Got a magic wand?
For our part, we’d like to see you spending more of your working life in column 3. Except with a magic wand, we haven’t seen people get to Column 3 without going through some version of Column 2.
So: how are you gonna get out of Column 1?
If not...you gotta change
Are you wishing for change? In our experience, it all starts with a wish.
Wishes we've heard:
"I wish I could get out of this rut."
"I wish I could get out of this trap."
"I wish they really wanted innovative ideas."
"I wish they would move ahead even if success isn't certain."
I WISH THEY WOULD STOP STOMPING ON MY IDEAS:
How might we replace all the jackboots with helping hands wearing velvet gloves, so we have some real help making innovation real?
What we bring to the party
We don't have a firm answer to this "How Might We....?" question. If we did, the answer would be wrong. If we said we did, it would be wishful thinking.
So, how can we possibly help?
What we do have is a process, that's proved effective in an array of settings. This problem-solving process guides and supports your team while you create the ideas and the blueprint that will help you move forward. It's teachable - so you can learn it from us and apply it independently. And such creative independence is the hallmark of people who flourish at work.
